Seven Post Rig Wheel Pan Loadcell

A customer operating within Formula 1 required a set of load cells for a vehicle chassis dynamics testing rig.

The Specification

The specifications supplied were for measurement of a dynamic vertical load (Fz) in the order of 15kN whilst being insensitive to moments caused by off-centre load (Mx and My). Lateral resonance of the structure had to be greater than 1000Hz with the live mass of the system kept low to minimise inertial force errors.

The Testing

Testing of the moment sensitivity was carried out in house by applying forces around a concentric radius on the loading plate . This allowed us to fit tailored electrical moment compensation to each load cell, without the need to mechanically adjust the sensing elements, thereby ensuring that the fatigue life wasn’t compromised.

The Results

The result was as set of load cells offering unrivalled performance in this niche but demanding application.
