This versatile rig is used by TRE GmbH for testing and development of everything from production cars and commercial vehicles, to fine tuning and development of single seater race cars and Le Mans prototype sports cars.
These loadcells have a low mass and high structural stiffness, enabling the high sampling rate required for this testing, however they are also extremely rugged – a requirement to handle the high frequency cyclic motion that these rigs deliver. They are also individually compensated for the off-axis and eccentric forces which are present when a suspension system moves in a deliberately curvilinear manner, which is optimal for handling, ride comfort and tyre wear, but challenging for force measurement.
Although an off-the-shelf may ‘do’, this is another clear example of where a radical rethink can optimise the loadcell for the application, rather than an attempt to do it the other way around. No corners cut, just an obsession with chasing perfection with everything we do.
